Yanchep National Park has a quite a few walk trails which are fabulous is winter and spring.
Here is our guide to our two favourites.
The Wetlands Walk:
Distance: 2km.
Time: Approx 45 mins.
Terrain: Flat, Easy.
Points of Interest: Lake Wagardu (Loch McNess)
This a beautiful, short and easy walk around the lake which is a dominant feature of Yanchep National Park. The walk is completely flat and well sign posted so you can’t get lost. There are some nice views across the lake which attracts a lot of bird life. You can also see the bush tucker Yanget plant (typha) which for which Yanchep is named after.
From the visitor’s centre, head anti clockwise around the lake. You will find the trail markers not far past the inn where you cross a small board walk.
The Ghost House Walk:
Distance: 9.2km.
Time: Approx 4-5 hours.
Terrain: Fairly flat bush track, easy to moderate
Points of Interest: Lake Wagardu (Loch McNess), limestone walls, mature Tuart trees, wildflowers in spring, Shapcotte Campsite, old ruins.
This one is getting a bit longer but it is still not particularly difficult. The terrain is mainly flat and the trail is a bush track, with a few slightly rocky sections. There are some lovely views and great wildflowers in spring. There is always a lot of native wisteria in winter and you can see a whole host of colours in late August through to late October. Look out for orchids as well!
The Ghost House walk starts from the Yanchep National Park visitors centre and incorporates about the first third of the Wetlands walk (above). About 400m into the Wetlands walk you have to take a sharp right turn after following the Ghost house trail symbol (it’s a ghost). When you get to end at Caberet Cave, just follow the roads back to the Yanchep Inn and the visitors cenre. Don’t forget to visit the koalas when you walk past!

Yanchep National Park:
How to get there: Yanchep National Park is 42km north of Perth on Wanneroo Rd, just past Yanchep Beach Rd. From Perth, take the Mitchell Freeway (Freeway North) as far as Burns Beach Road. Turn right onto Burns Beach road and then left onto Wanneroo Road. The entrance to the park is well sign posted.
Costs: Entry to Yanchep National Park is $12 per car or $6 for concession holders.
Other things to do: See the koalas, picnic on the lawn, Aboriginal cultural tour, lunch at the tea house, drinks at the Inn.
