One of our lovely walkers Peita, surprised us all on the last day of the Kimberley tour when she whipped out a limerick poem she had been inspired to write about her experiences and new friends made on tour. With her permission we have shared it below:
There once was a dozen Eastern staters
Who hit the Kimberley with boots, hats and gaiters.
We fled urban jungles
To be astounded by the Bungles,
And how superbly Inspiration caters.
In our group was Carol who went camping
She’d prob’ly prefer five star glamping.
The toilets were distant,
She was lost in an instant,
Accidentally others’ tents she was sampling.
Still for Carol, the Kimberley’s become dear –
With Morag, crossed the Manning without fear.
Removing singlet and socks
Now she swims with the crocs!
Happy birthday dear Carol, three cheers!
Now a couple did journey from Queensland.
Steve’s passion is cultivating bonsai plants.
He ‘n Ursula’re keen
About birds, trees and scenes
Of the red earth and blue skies so grand.
Toowoomba is known by others well –
Jenny and Anne, two old friends who gell.
“There’s Windjana or Questro.”
They ask, “Which is best? Though
We’ve mem’ries of crystal falls at Bell.”
Then there’s the high and the low of it.
Tall Peter from Sutherland’s keeping fit.
Petite Morag’s new pursuit
Is swimming – she’s so cute!
Later, cosy by the fire that Adam’s lit.
In the copter ride Jenny and Jill.
Such daredevils – they do love the thrill!
Purnalulu’s below
The Bungles aglow.
“Again!” they cry. “Give a spin over them hills!”
Then there’s two women travelled far and near
Clever photographers, they’ve got splendid gear.
“Laurie’s pretty pink beanie,
I covet,” says Jeannie,
As each pursues that perfect shot, so clear.
Last not least, there’s Adam and Laura –
Our story-telling, kind-hearted explorers.
We thank you – you’re treasures,
With skills beyond measure –
Meals, driving, plus fauna and flora!
Best wishes
