One of Inspiration Outdoors’s guides, recently unwittingly misplaced his prized possession, Cyril the Cicada. When it was “found” by our team of walkers, rather than return Cyril straight away, we decided to take Cyril out for a bit of a stroll… 18km on the Bibbulmun Track! I hope you enjoy Cyril’s Big day out.
This is Cyril. Can you see him? Cyril is a cicada and he lives in the forest. Cyril loves to go walking all day on the Bibbulmun Track. He also likes 12th Century French poetry and watching the Lehrer Hour on SBS.
Some people aren’t big fans of Cicadas as they tend to make a bit of a racket at night
But Cyril is actually very lovely and very friendly. One day he made friends with a group of walkers who were walking on the Bibbulmun Track. The group adopted Cyril and they all went for a stroll.
Cyril knew the forest so well, that he could show the walkers where to go. “Follow me guys, I know this place like the back of my wings.”
Cyril showed the walkers all of the coolest spots to hang out.
And where to find the wildflowers.
The walkers repaid Cyril by giving him a lovely morning tea. “This is much better than eating rotting vegetation”, said Cyril
As they walked along, Cyril spotted a huge monster on the track! Arrrgh, it’s a hoping monster. He has come to eat all of the plants and maybe us!! Run.
Cyril wanted to run and hide. He had heard of the monsters before. He had known friends who were quietly sitting on a leaf when a giant monster had eaten them up.
Cyril wanted to dig a hole and bury himself… To save himself from the monster.
But as Cyril lay in his hole, he realised that he had left his new friends at the mercy of the monster. Were they safe? Shouldn’t he return and save them?
He wondered how he would feel if he was trapped in the net of the the monster and none of his friends were coming to save him.
Cyril did what he had to. He plucked up the courage and he attacked the monster and caught it in its own net!
Everyone was so happy! They celebrated by walking though this gigantic tree. Wow, look at this giant tree, it makes me tingle all over.
Then everyone stood awkwardly around on the grass.
Everyone was so happy… but the adventure was over, so they said their good byes to Cyril and hopped on the bus.
“Good bye everyone” said Cyril, “Look forward to seeing you again on the Bibbulmun Track”. Cyril then flew his away as the bus pulled out.
But tragedy struck as they drove away! Cyril was swept up by an evil wind and slammed straight into the windscreen!
“Oh no” the walkers cried, “Is Cyril okay”
To be continued……..
